Sugawara x Takahashi Show

Alia Sugawara’s new solo show “Konketsu,” created with Jun Takahashi, opened in Hong Kong and features uncanny bat–butterfly hybrid creatures that probe nature’s in‑between states. The collaboration was flagged as a must‑see immersive highlight of Hong Kong Art Week this week (wwd.com).

Konketsu is on view at otherthings by THE SHOPHOUSE in Tai Hang and is scheduled to run through May 10, 2026. (wwd.com (wwd.com)) Pieces are presented as paper-based hanging scrolls, folding screens and mounted works, with Sugawara using an ink ground made from locally sourced flaxseed oil soot “black inkstick.” (wwd.com (wwd.com)) The exhibition’s title Konketsu, which WWD translates as “mixed blood,” is explicitly linked to Sugawara’s bicultural genealogy; she was born in Sapporo and studied environmental science and mathematical science at the University of British Columbia and Waseda University. (wwd.com (wwd.com)) Jun Takahashi’s public-art crossover adds an industry angle: the UNDERCOVER founder has been showing paintings publicly since 2023 and mounted the solo show “Peaceable Kingdom” in Hong Kong at WKM Gallery from Oct. 25–Dec. 21, 2024.
