Stanford Hosts 'Physical AI' Robotics Event

A 'Physical AI & Robot' event was held at Stanford University on February 26, hosted by PL-Universe Robotics. The event brought together academics and investors to discuss how advanced AI models can give industrial robots the ability to master production line tasks.

The core technology under discussion was the use of Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models to power industrial robots. These AI systems are designed to interpret and act on commands in complex, real-world manufacturing environments, moving beyond pre-programmed, repetitive tasks. The goal is to enable robots to "see," "understand," and "foresee" on the production line. PL-Universe's Founder & COO, Ge Jin, presented the company's solution to the challenge of versatile manufacturing: a "universal ontology + rapidly replaceable dedicated end-effectors" approach. This involves a core robotic platform, the ProWhite Robot 2.0, which can be quickly adapted for different high-precision tasks like soldering, dispensing, or fastening by swapping its modular hands. The event also featured Quan Kuichen, head of PL-Universe's large model team, who detailed the company's breakthroughs in applying VLA models. He highlighted their progress in multi-modal data collection and "few-shot learning," which allows robots to be trained for new tasks more quickly, aiming for sub-millimeter precision on the factory floor. Providing an investment perspective, TSVC General Partner Spencer Greene discussed the venture capital view on "Embodied AI." He pointed to structural labor shortages as a key driver for adopting these robotic systems and stressed the importance of focusing on real commercial value over the hype sometimes associated with humanoid robots. The global AI competition was a key point of discussion, with automotive industry observer Xing Lei noting that while the U.S. currently leads in algorithms and chips, China has a strong advantage in supply chains and practical application scenarios. This suggests a potential for complementary cooperation between the two countries in the field of physical AI.
