Society for Brain Health Launches
Scientists announced the launch of the Society for Brain Health at the Center for BrainHealth's annual conference. The new organization aims to bring together scientists, educators, and policymakers to boost global cognitive capacity and foster resilience against neurodegenerative diseases.
The new Society for Brain Health is spearheaded by a group of visionary leaders including Mark D’Esposito, MD, Geoff Ling, MD, PhD, Ian Robertson, PhD, Vince Calhoun, PhD, and Sandi Chapman, PhD. This collective of scientists aims to establish brain health as a distinct discipline focused on lifelong cognitive vitality, moving beyond merely the absence of disease. A key goal for the society is to accelerate the development of proactive biomarkers for precision brain health. This involves creating standards, shared datasets, and benchmarks to support diagnosis and treatment, effectively translating cutting-edge research into real-world applications. The organization plans to launch its own journal, which will serve as a unifying platform for new discoveries in the field. The first official meeting of the Society for Brain Health is scheduled for February 25, 2027, and will be hosted at the Center for BrainHealth in Dallas, Texas. This initiative arrives at a critical time, as it is estimated that one in three people will develop a neurological disorder in their lifetime. Neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability globally and the second leading cause of death. The society's focus on proactive health and resilience aims to address this growing global challenge.
