Akash Systems Delivers Diamond-Cooled GPU Servers
Akash Systems has delivered the first-ever NVIDIA GPU servers featuring its Akash Diamond Cooling® technology to NxtGen AI Pvt Ltd. The company claims the solution is additive to existing air and liquid cooling technologies and can increase GPU compute performance by approximately 15% in high-temperature data centers by eliminating thermal throttling.
- The deal with NxtGen AI Pvt Ltd, India's sovereign artificial intelligence solutions provider, is valued at $27 million. - Akash Systems is led by co-founder and CEO Felix Ejeckam, who previously founded Group4 Labs, a company acquired by De Beers that developed the foundational GaN-on-Diamond technology. - The company's technology claims to reduce GPU hotspot temperatures by 10-20°C, which can enable up to 25% overclocking, double server lifetimes, and cut GPU fan energy consumption by 90%. - Synthetic diamond, the core of the cooling technology, is five times more thermally conductive than copper, a common material in traditional heat sinks. - In November 2024, Akash Systems was approved for up to $68 million in CHIPS and Science Act funding and tax credits to support a new $121 million semiconductor manufacturing facility in West Oakland, California. - Early investors in Akash Systems include prominent venture capital firms Khosla Ventures and Founders Fund. - NxtGen's CEO, A S Rajgopal, stated that combining Akash's cooling with other technologies allows them to double the performance per watt and reduce the cost of AI compute services by over 50%.
