Thursday Murder Club Netflix Date Set

The film adaptation of Richard Osman's *The Thursday Murder Club* will premiere globally on Netflix on August 28, 2025. The streaming service released first-look photos and confirmed the movie's PG-13 rating for violent content and thematic material. Osman has also sold North American rights for new titles in the series, with his follow-up *We Solve Murders* also set for adaptation.

The film adaptation of Richard Osman's publishing phenomenon is helmed by director Chris Columbus, known for his work on *Home Alone* and the first two *Harry Potter* films. The screenplay was penned by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote. Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment is producing the movie, having acquired the worldwide rights to the novel in March 2020. The cast features a lineup of acclaimed British actors. Helen Mirren stars as the enigmatic former spy Elizabeth Best, with Pierce Brosnan as the fiery ex-union leader Ron Ritchie. They are joined by Ben Kingsley as the meticulous ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim Arif and Celia Imrie as the cheerful former nurse Joyce Meadowcroft. The supporting cast includes David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, and Naomi Ackie. The source novel, published in September 2020, was a runaway success. It sold 45,000 copies in its first three days in the UK and became the first debut novel ever to be the Christmas number one bestseller. The book sold over a million copies in the UK within the same year of its release, a record-breaking achievement. The movie is based on the first of five books in the "Thursday Murder Club" series. The subsequent novels, *The Man Who Died Twice*, *The Bullet That Missed*, and *The Last Devil to Die*, have all been major bestsellers. The runaway success of the series has been a global phenomenon, with rights sold in numerous countries.
