Tradeweb Backs Multi-Asset Platform Crossover
Tradeweb is leading a new funding round in Crossover Markets, an initiative aimed at expanding multi-asset trading. The investment points to the growing need for infrastructure that can support low-latency connectivity and smart order routing across previously siloed asset classes.
Crossover Markets' execution-only ECN, CROSSx, is engineered for single-digit microsecond matching performance. This level of latency is a direct challenge to the central limit order book (CLOB) model common in crypto, targeting high-frequency and algorithmic trading strategies that require minimal delay. The platform's design focuses on eliminating conflicts of interest by separating execution from other bundled services. The recent $31 million Series B funding round, which valued Crossover at $200 million, was not only led by Tradeweb but also included significant participation from key industry players like DRW Venture Capital, Ripple, Virtu Financial, and XTX Markets. This diverse investor base signals a broad consensus in the institutional digital asset space on the need for dedicated, high-performance execution venues. Since its launch, CROSSx has processed over $50 billion in notional trading volume across 12 million trades, demonstrating significant traction with its base of nearly 100 institutional participants. The platform's connectivity is built on the FIX protocol, a standard for institutional trading, facilitating seamless integration into existing infrastructures. This investment marks Tradeweb's formal entry into the institutional crypto market, a strategic move to extend its multi-asset capabilities. The plan involves integrating Crossover's spot crypto liquidity directly into Tradeweb's own algorithmic order-routing technology, offering its global client base a new, regulated access point to digital assets. The capital infusion is earmarked for enhancing the CROSSx technology stack and expanding its global operational footprint. Crossover's architecture, led by a team with deep experience in FX trading and prime brokerage technology, is designed to provide the robust infrastructure required as traditional and digital asset markets continue to converge.
