São Paulo earns top stars

Brazil’s 2026 Michelin Guide awarded three stars to Evvai and Tuju in São Paulo, while Rio picked up a new one‑star listing for Madame Olympe, according to local coverage. Brazil’s Michelin Guide has given its first three-star ratings to two restaurants in São Paulo: Evvai and Tuju. (guide.michelin.com) The awards were announced on April 13 at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro, in the 2026 edition of the Michelin Guide for Rio and São Paulo. Michelin said Evvai and Tuju are the first restaurants in Brazil and Latin America to reach three stars. (guide.michelin.com) Rio de Janeiro added one new one-star restaurant, Madame Olympe, led by Claude Troisgros in Leblon. The 2026 guide lists 19 one-star restaurants in the two cities combined. (g1.globo.com) The two-star tier did not change. D.O.M. in São Paulo, plus Lasai and Oro in Rio, all kept their two-star status in the 2026 guide. (uol.com.br) Michelin’s star system ranks restaurants on cooking, not décor: one star marks “high-quality cooking,” two stars signal cooking “worth a detour,” and three stars are reserved for cuisine “worth a special journey.” Bib Gourmand is a separate label for strong value. (guide.michelin.com) (exame.com) That matters in Brazil because the guide still covers only Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, not the whole country. Michelin said the 2026 selection stayed at 149 restaurants across the two cities, with 12 notable new additions. (guide.michelin.com) (uol.com.br) The jump to three stars also changes the regional picture from last year. In the 2025 guide, Brazil had no three-star restaurants, five two-star restaurants, 20 one-star restaurants, and 149 total selections. (michelin.com) (uol.com.br) The 2026 guide also expanded its Bib Gourmand list by six restaurants: Koral in Rio, and Jiquitaia, Manioca JK, Ping Yang Thai Bar & Food, Tabôa Cozinha Artesanal, and Tanit in São Paulo. That brought the Bib Gourmand total to 46, with 38 in São Paulo and eight in Rio. (uol.com.br) (exame.com) Michelin kept its three Green Stars in São Paulo — A Casa do Porco, Corrutela, and Tuju — for restaurants it says stand out for sustainability. The guide also added a new mixology category and gave its Young Chef Award to Pedro Coronha of Koral in Rio. (uol.com.br) (exame.com) For São Paulo, the headline is clear: the city now has both of Latin America’s first Michelin three-star restaurants. For Rio, the guide added a new starred address without losing its existing two-star houses. (guide.michelin.com) (g1.globo.com)
