Alex Ovechkin currently has 996 career goals in the regular season and playoffs combined. This places him on the verge of becoming only the second player in NHL history to reach the 1,000-goal plateau. The only other member of this exclusive club is Wayne Gretzky, who holds the all-time record with 1,016 combined goals (894 in the regular season and 122 in the playoffs). Ovechkin already holds the record for the most regular-season goals in an NHL career, having surpassed Gretzky's previous mark of 894. He is also the only player in league history to score 900 regular-season goals. Throughout his illustrious career, "The Great 8" has won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy as the league's top goal-scorer a record nine times. He and Mike Bossy are the only players to have nine 50-goal seasons.
