Pierce Brown's Red Rising Adaptation Cancelled

The long-awaited TV adaptation of Pierce Brown’s *Red Rising* series has been cancelled after 12 years in development.

Pierce Brown revealed that the *Red Rising* TV adaptation is not moving forward because the studio wasn't "confident" in the project. He learned in October 2025 that the project was shelved after being in development for several years. Brown stated that adaptations often get stuck in development, and it's best to assume they won't happen until purchased. The *Red Rising* series was initially optioned as a film by Universal Studios (2014-2016), but Brown reclaimed the rights in 2018 due to creative differences. He then focused on a TV adaptation (2018-2021), assembling a team and attracting interest from streamers. By 2022, a streamer (possibly Apple TV) re-optioned the project with a $120-200 million budget. Despite the cancellation, Brown has hinted at a new adaptation in the works. He is more confident about this new opportunity but has not revealed whether it will be a movie or another TV series. Brown emphasized the need for creative control and faithfulness to the source material throughout the adaptation process.
