Swedish Entrepreneurs Keen on India AI Collaboration

At the India AI Impact Summit, Swedish entrepreneurs expressed strong enthusiasm for collaborating with India on AI projects. Amitabh Kant, former CEO of NITI Aayog, noted that India's massive scale is seen as a key advantage for developing and deploying global AI solutions. This indicates growing international interest in leveraging India's data and talent pool for AI development.

- The collaboration is underpinned by the 2018 "Joint Declaration on Innovation Partnership for a Sustainable Future," a framework based on co-funding, co-development, and co-creation in areas including AI, digital health, and clean technologies. - At the summit, a high-level Swedish delegation including Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch and leaders from major corporations sought to deepen collaboration, highlighting Sweden's expertise in applied industrial AI and India's scale and talent. - Amitabh Kant has cautioned that India provides 33% more data to services like ChatGPT than the U.S. and advocated for developing indigenous, multilingual AI models to prevent over-reliance on foreign platforms that monetize Indian data. - The formal "Startup Bridge" and the Sweden-India Tech Community (SITEC) are active initiatives designed to connect the two startup ecosystems, facilitating relationships between founders, incubators, investors, and corporations like Volvo and Saab. - This interest builds on a long corporate history, with nearly 300 Swedish companies like Ericsson, Volvo, and Truecaller already established in India; Ericsson's presence dates back to 1903. - Specific joint government and corporate initiatives are already underway, such as using AI for production optimization in heavy industries and a call from Sweden's innovation agency, Vinnova, for projects using AI to enable the green transition in steel and cement. - India's national strategy includes the IndiaAI Mission, which provides subsidized computing for startups and researchers and aims to develop at least 10 indigenous large language models (LLMs).
