First Black Punk Band Hits Billboard #1

The Paradox became the first all-Black punk band to hit #1 on the Billboard Rock chart, earning co-signs from Kid Cudi, SZA, and LeBron James. The milestone breaks significant barriers in a genre historically dominated by white artists.

- The Atlanta-based band formed in June 2024 and experienced a meteoric rise online, gaining over 730,000 social media followers within their first three weeks. Their initial break came from a viral TikTok video of them performing their song "Do Me Like That" in a backyard, which amassed nearly 10 million views. - The chart-topping song is titled "Get the Message," from their 2025 EP *NSFW*. It reached the #1 spot on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart for the week dated January 24, 2026. - High-profile endorsements for the band include opening for Green Day at Truist Park and for Jack White at a show in Nashville. Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker collaborated with the group on a song called "Bender." - The band consists of Eric Dangerfield on lead vocals and guitar, Christopher “Xelan” Bernard on lead guitar, Donald Bryant on bass, and Percy “PC3” Crews on drums. - While rock music was built on Black artistry, punk as a genre has seen few all-Black bands achieve mainstream chart success. Pioneers in the genre include the band Death, formed by three brothers in Detroit in 1971, and Bad Brains, which formed in Washington, D.C. in 1977. - At its peak, "Get the Message" also reached #9 on the more comprehensive Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, with 3.4 million audience impressions in a single week.
