Slay the Spire 2 Fixes Multiplayer Exploits

The roguelike deckbuilder's sequel patched major multiplayer bugs, fixing exploits such as a relic that granted infinite block. The game's robust player base and rapid developer response highlight continued community engagement. Meanwhile, Slay the Spire 2 became the 20th most-played game on Steam recently.

The now-patched infinite block exploit involved players stacking a relic called Beacon of Hope in multiplayer sessions. This allowed for a continuous generation of block that rendered the party effectively invincible. The fix was part of a broader hotfix that also addressed a soft-lock issue caused by the Whispering Earring relic and an issue preventing players from unlocking new content in the "Timeline" after a multiplayer run. Developer Mega Crit built its reputation on the original *Slay the Spire*, a game widely credited with launching the roguelike deckbuilder genre into the mainstream. That game's success was built on word-of-mouth and a long-term early access period that incorporated significant community feedback, a strategy the developers appear to be continuing with the sequel. The sequel's multiplayer is a significant departure from the original's solo experience. The new co-op mode supports up to four players who navigate a shared map but build their own individual decks. Enemies feature scaled health and damage based on the number of players, and all players are targeted by enemy attacks simultaneously. To facilitate teamwork, the game introduces multiplayer-exclusive cards and allows throwable potions to be used on allies. Path choices on the map are decided by a party-wide vote, and if a player dies during combat, they will be revived with 1 HP after the fight is over, as long as one player survives. *Slay the Spire 2*'s early access launch saw a massive surge in players, peaking at 574,638 concurrent users, making it the 20th highest all-time peak on Steam. This figure dramatically overshadows the original game's peak player count. Initial sales estimates suggest the sequel has already sold 2.8 million units, generating approximately $55.1 million in revenue.
