Uptown Gallery in White Rock is showing “Beyond Form: A Collective Abstraction” through April 28, with abstract painting and sculpture filling the city-run space. (whiterockcity.ca) The exhibition opened April 3 at 15140 North Bluff Road and runs Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. City listings describe it as a free show presented by Voices. (whiterockcity.ca) White Rock’s event page names four artists in the show: David Patterson, Colleen Lumb, Patty Ripley and Jeanette Jarville. The city scheduled a grand opening for Friday, April 10, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with music by James Devon. (whiterockcity.ca) The show mixes finished work with participation. The city says visitors can add marks to an interactive “Community Canvas,” while several artists paint live on site during the run of the exhibition. (whiterockcity.ca) That format fits how Uptown Gallery is used in White Rock. The city’s gallery page says the venue hosts rotating monthly exhibits and is set up for local artists to show work and meet visitors in person. (whiterockcity.ca) The April exhibition also sits inside a full 2026 schedule at the gallery. White Rock’s listings show monthly shows before and after it, including “Art Gathering in White Rock” in March and “Flowers, Faces and Forms” in May. (whiterockcity.ca) Abstract art, in plain terms, does not try to depict a scene or person exactly as it looks. White Rock’s event description says this show focuses on “new and recent works” that explore abstraction through color, gesture and sculptural form rather than direct representation. (whiterockcity.ca) By the end of April, the exhibition’s final shape will include not only the four artists’ work, but also whatever visitors leave behind on the Community Canvas. (whiterockcity.ca)
