Michelin will bring its 2026 California Guide ceremony to San Diego on June 24, the first time the annual statewide awards have been held there. (sandiegouniontribune.com) (sandiegoville.com) The invitation-only event is scheduled for EVE, a bayfront venue on San Diego Harbor. Local coverage said the ceremony will reveal the 2026 California stars there. (sandiegoville.com) (smithallengroup.com) Michelin’s California inspectors add restaurants to the guide during the year, but stars and Bib Gourmand distinctions are held for the annual ceremony. Michelin said that again in its March 25, 2026 update on new California additions. (guide.michelin.com) San Diego enters the ceremony with a deeper Michelin footprint than it had a few years ago. SanDiegoVille counted five Michelin-starred restaurants in the county, led by Addison, the region’s only three-star restaurant. (sandiegoville.com) (sandiego.com) The city’s Michelin rise is recent. San Diego only became eligible for Michelin recognition when the guide expanded to statewide California coverage in 2019. (sandiegoville.com) (guide.michelin.com) That shift changed the map of California fine dining. Before the statewide guide, Michelin’s California coverage centered on San Francisco, Los Angeles and a smaller set of nearby markets rather than San Diego County. (sandiegoville.com) (guide.michelin.com) Michelin’s own San Diego listings now show starred, Bib Gourmand and selected restaurants across the city, including La Jolla and other neighborhoods. The broader California guide currently lists 543 restaurants statewide. (guide.michelin.com 1) (guide.michelin.com 2) The ceremony itself follows a 2025 California awards year in which Michelin added two new three-star restaurants, two new two-star restaurants and five new one-star restaurants statewide. San Diego’s hosting role puts the city at the center of the next round of those announcements. (guide.michelin.com) (sandiegouniontribune.com) For San Diego restaurants, the next key date is now set. On June 24, chefs from across California will head to the bayfront to find out who keeps, gains or loses stars. (sandiegouniontribune.com) (smithallengroup.com)
