Experian to Acquire AtData from TZP Group

Private equity firm TZP Group announced the sale of AtData, an email identity and fraud prevention platform, to global information services company Experian. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition marks a successful exit for TZP Group from its investment in the data services provider.

- This acquisition enriches Experian's data assets by adding AtData's more than 10 billion email addresses and real-time email activity signals. AtData's platform processes over 150 billion deterministic signals each month, which will be integrated into Experian's systems. - The two companies have a long-standing relationship, with Experian noting a collaborative partnership with AtData that has spanned more than 15 years prior to the acquisition. - AtData was formed in 2022 through the merger of TowerData and FreshAddress and is backed by the private equity firm TZP Group, which first invested in FreshAddress in 2018. The sale to Experian represents a successful exit for the New York-based private equity firm. - This move is part of Experian's broader strategy to build a more comprehensive, AI-driven identity and fraud prevention infrastructure, moving beyond its traditional credit bureau operations. The company has been actively acquiring businesses focused on open finance, fraud, and digital identity. - AtData has been recognized for its growth, ranking #2127 on the 2024 Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. with a reported 247% growth rate over the previous three years. - Tom Burke, the CEO of AtData, will continue to lead the business and will report to Experian's leadership team. - The integration of AtData's technology is expected to enhance Experian's ability to help clients in sectors like financial services, insurance, and healthcare to more accurately verify identities, assess risk, and combat fraud. - AtData's CEO, Tom Burke, was previously responsible for email hygiene products at Return Path and founded TowerData, one of the precursor companies to AtData, in 2001.
