Acadia National Park reopened most of Park Loop Road to cars on Tuesday, April 15, starting the 2026 busy season with one major gap still shut. (nps.gov) The National Park Service said the stretch from Kebo Street to Sieur de Monts will stay closed to all uses through June 12, except during Memorial Day weekend. Drivers are being detoured onto Mount Desert Street, Main Street, and Route 3 before rejoining the loop at Sieur de Monts. (nps.gov) Park Loop Road and other paved park roads are listed as open from April 15 through December 1 in Acadia’s 2026 operating schedule. The road is one of the park’s main routes on Mount Desert Island and connects heavily used stops during the summer season. (nps.gov) The reopening comes as Acadia tells visitors to expect a busy summer and to plan ahead before arriving in Bar Harbor. The park requires an entrance pass year-round, and officials direct visitors to current conditions pages because several spring closures remain in place. (nps.gov) Those other closures include the Cadillac Summit Road, which the park says is shut through April 30 while crews build a pedestrian walkway between the two summit parking areas. Hiking trails to Cadillac Summit remain open, but the road itself is closed to vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists during the work. (nps.gov; nps.gov) A separate construction closure also blocked the section from the start of the one-way portion of Park Loop Road to Kebo Street from April 6 through April 14. The park said that closure applied to walkers and cyclists as well as drivers. (nps.gov) Spring access in Acadia is also being shaped by seasonal protections. The carriage roads have been closed since March 19 during spring thaw, and trails including Precipice Trail, Jordan Cliffs Trail, Penobscot East Trail, and Valley Cove Trail are closed for peregrine falcon nesting season. (nps.gov) More of the park’s visitor infrastructure comes online over the next two months. Hulls Cove Visitor Center opens May 2, the Jordan Pond House restaurant opens May 16, and the Sieur de Monts Nature Center opens June 16. (nps.gov) Cadillac Summit Road reservations return on May 20 and run through October 25. For now, the main change on April 15 is that Acadia’s signature loop is drivable again, with the Kebo Street-to-Sieur de Monts segment still under detour. (nps.gov; nps.gov)
