Maine guided nature walk
The Natural Resources Council of Maine joined Maine Huts & Trails for a “Tracks and Trees” guided nature walk — the post marking the final winter event was published March 24, 2026. (mainehuts.org)
Registered Maine Guide Bob Duport led the group on a tracks-and-trees ID snowshoe that routed participants around the Flagstaff Lake Hut on Maine Huts & Trails’ trail network. (mainehuts.org) Walkers recorded tracks from vole, squirrel, fox, ermine and ruffed grouse, and observers reported seeing a mink on the Birch Trail during the outing. (mainehuts.org) The party stopped to inspect a beaver house and dam located just north of Flagstaff Lake Hut as part of the identification portion of the program. (mainehuts.org) NRCM co-sponsored the outing and provided lunch for participants at Flagstaff Lake Hut; Maine Huts’ event listing also notes NRCM planned to have Olivia Ruhlin speak about the organization’s work during the meal. (mainehuts.org) NRCM’s events calendar described the outing as a roughly six-mile roundtrip snowshoe that met at the Flagstaff trailhead at 10:00 a.m. and advised registration was limited to about 30 people. (nrcm.org) Flagstaff Lake Hut, where lunch was served, is a lakeside eco-lodge that accommodates about 44 guests in 10 rooms and offers shoreline views of Mt. Bigelow. (etravelmaine.com)
