Students built a stress‑management AI app

Cretan students developed CALMify, an AI tool to help peers manage study stress — a reminder that wellness‑oriented tech resonates with younger cohorts and can deepen institutional affinity. Piloting student-created wellness tech can create brand lift and alumni goodwill. (athens-times.com)

The four students behind CALMify are named Eva Gkolikova, Eleftheria Tzangarakis, Alexandra Papadogiorgaki and Julien Charalampakis, and their mentor is teacher Alkis Bakaros at Theodoropoulos Schools in Chania, Crete. (athens-times.com: ) Their project won first place in the 9th Panhellenic Generation Next Competition, which this year attracted more than 80 secondary‑school teams from across Greece. (athens-times.com: vodafonegenerationnext.gr: ) The prototype combines an AI‑enabled camera that tracks posture and facial expressions, analysis of typing rhythm, embedded microcontrollers and 3D‑printed hardware, and it automatically plays personalised relaxing music when elevated stress is detected. (athens-times.com: ) As national winners the team will represent Greece at the Skills Upload Jr European final on 27 March and the national awards package includes a three‑day educational trip to London; the top three national teams will also receive technology prizes such as laptops, bionic robots and smartwatches. (greekcitytimes.com: vodafone.gr: ) Generation Next is organised by the Vodafone Foundation as part of its Skills Upload Jr programme, which runs a Europe‑wide challenge in multiple countries to promote digital wellbeing and young people’s tech skills.
