Kohli and Sharma Return vs Afghanistan
The BCCI has confirmed that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will return for India's next Test and ODI series against Afghanistan. This marks India's first international outing after the T20 World Cup, with fans eagerly anticipating the return of these two star players.
This tour marks the second-ever Test match between India and Afghanistan. Their only previous encounter was Afghanistan's inaugural Test in 2018, where India won by an innings and 262 runs in Bengaluru. The two veterans have transitioned to being ODI specialists, having retired from both Test and T20I formats. Their last appearance for India was in an ODI series against New Zealand in January 2026, where the hosts suffered a 2-1 series defeat. In that series against New Zealand, Virat Kohli was India's highest run-scorer with 240 runs, including a century and a half-century. Rohit Sharma, however, had a quieter series with scores of 11, 24, and 26. Historically in the 50-over format, India holds a dominant record over Afghanistan. The teams have met four times, with India winning three of those matches and the other ending in a tie during the 2018 Asia Cup. The upcoming series begins with the one-off Test match in New Chandigarh from June 6-10. Following the Test, the three-match ODI series will kick off. The matches are scheduled for June 14 in Dharamsala, June 17 in Lucknow, and June 20 in Chennai.
