SJIMA Spring Exhibitions Open March 6
SJIMA's Spring 2026 exhibitions featuring art, science, and whimsy by three artists open March 6. The museum continues programming that blends creative disciplines — exhibitions promise to showcase intersection of artistic expression and scientific inquiry through multiple artist perspectives.
The upcoming exhibitions will be spread across SJIMA's three galleries: the Nichols, North, and Atrium Galleries. This multi-gallery approach allows for three distinct solo exhibitions, each offering a unique perspective on the central theme. The exhibitions will run from March 6 through June 1, 2026. In the Nichols Gallery, Lauren Boilini's exhibition, "Celestial Navigation," will feature large-scale oil on linen canvases. Her work explores the mesmerizing patterns of bird and insect swarms, transforming the chaos of nature into rhythmic, mesmerizing art. Boilini, who teaches painting and drawing at The Evergreen State College, is also collaborating on a project for SeaTac's South Concourse. Lopez Island artist Janis Miltenberger's "Productive Uncertainty" will be on display in the North Gallery. An internationally recognized glass artist, Miltenberger's intricate sculptures are inspired by the natural world, particularly healing plants and marine life. Her work delves into themes of grief, healing, and imagination, weaving them into delicate, story-driven pieces. The Atrium Gallery will house Dan Brown's "Iron and Wood: Sculptures of the Northwest." Brown, who holds degrees in wildlife biology and education, brings a unique perspective to his art. His whimsical sculptures, crafted from constructed metal, wood, and found objects, are a celebration of the Pacific Northwest's playful spirit. The exhibition will also feature his fantastical watercolor paintings of trout.
