WILLOW Releases New Album
WILLOW dropped a new album featured in NPR's "New Music Friday" alongside Turkish psych-folk band Altin Gün and a genre-bending project by Fugazi alumni that melds punk and jazz influences. The NPR showcase highlights adventurous and forward-looking sounds for alternative music fans.
- WILLOW's new album is titled *petal rock black* and is her seventh studio release. It features collaborations with funk legend George Clinton, jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, and the experimental music project Tune-Yards. - She wrote and produced the album herself, working almost entirely alone with her engineer for a year and a half to shape the sound. The album reimagines ten of Ertaş's compositions, blending them with the band's signature mix of psychedelic rock and funk. - The title *Garip* translates to "strange" and features arrangements inspired by Egyptian popular music and Turkish Arabesque, with some tracks recorded in collaboration with the Stockholm Studio Orchestra. - The project involving Fugazi alumni is a collaboration between Ian MacKaye (Fugazi, Minor Threat) and Henry Rollins (Black Flag, Rollins Band). The two hardcore pioneers recently recorded a four-song session together at Washington, D.C.'s legendary Inner Ear Studios.
