NVIDIA invests $26B in open-weight AI models

NVIDIA is investing $26 billion in open-weight model development and partnered with Thinking Machines Lab to accelerate predictive analytics deployments.

This investment signals NVIDIA's shift from an infrastructure provider to a direct competitor against OpenAI, Anthropic, and DeepSeek. The $26 billion commitment is reportedly the largest single investment in open-weight model development in AI history. NVIDIA is also partnering with Thinking Machines Lab, founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, to deploy next-gen Vera Rubin systems. This includes a "significant investment" in the company to support long-term growth. Thinking Machines Lab will deploy at least one gigawatt of NVIDIA's Vera Rubin systems to train its models. This partnership aims to broaden access to frontier AI and open models for enterprises, research institutions, and the scientific community. The collaboration also focuses on designing training and serving systems optimized for NVIDIA architectures. The chip supply arrangement is estimated to be worth tens of billions of dollars.
