Shelly Teases Smart Home Launch

Smart home automation company Shelly is teasing new products for a March 6th reveal at 17:00 CET on their YouTube channel. The timing coincides with the post-CES smart home buzz and suggests major announcements in the automation space.

Shelly has built its reputation on creating compact, retrofit-friendly smart relays and switches. These devices are designed to be installed behind existing wall switches and sockets, allowing users to add smart control without replacing their current hardware. The company primarily utilizes Wi-Fi for its devices, which allows them to connect directly to a home's network without the need for a central hub. More recently, Shelly has expanded its ecosystem to include Bluetooth-operated devices, which can communicate with other Shelly products via a BLU Gateway or directly with their "Plus" and "Pro" series hardware. In a significant expansion of its connectivity options, Shelly launched a line of Z-Wave Long Range (ZWLR) products in the U.S. in late 2024 and 2025. This technology offers a much greater communication range than traditional smart home protocols like Wi-Fi or Zigbee, capable of reaching up to 1.5 miles in ideal conditions. The brand has a history of multi-product announcements. At CES 2023, Shelly unveiled eight new smart home devices, including a smart smoke alarm and the Shelly Pro 3EM, a three-phase energy meter for detailed power consumption monitoring. This multi-protocol approach, now encompassing Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Z-Wave, positions Shelly as a versatile player in the market. The company has also signaled future support for broader interoperability standards like Matter and Zigbee.
