Israeli Tech Fundraising Soars Despite Conflict

Despite regional turmoil, the Israeli tech sector is showing remarkable resilience, raising $775 million in February. The figure marks the best monthly fundraising performance for the country's startups since 2022, underscoring continued global investor confidence in its innovation ecosystem.

The February fundraising landscape was dominated by early-stage companies, with 15 out of the 16 deals being for Seed or Series A rounds. This indicates a continued focus on foundational growth, even as the broader investment climate showed signs of caution. One of the largest deals of the month was a $105 million Series A for Exodigo, a company using AI for underground mapping. Other significant rounds included $24 million for visual generative AI platform BRIA, another $24 million for silicon photonics company DustPhotonics, and $16 million for deepfake detection startup Clarity. This period of robust fundraising coincided with significant operational challenges for the tech sector. As of early February 2024, high-tech workers comprised 20% of all IDF reservists, despite making up only 10% of the general population. This disproportionate representation meant many companies were operating with a reduced workforce. A survey from the time indicated that over 70% of Israeli high-tech companies reported operational difficulties due to the widespread call-up of key personnel. The mobilization of up to 30% of the tech workforce presented a significant hurdle for startups and established companies alike, forcing them to adapt to maintain business goals.
