Anthropic enables Claude for PowerPoint

- Anthropic’s new PowerPoint add-in moved from demo to deployable product this week, with tenant setup docs, Marketplace listing, and enterprise rollout paths now live. - The key detail is where it runs: web, Windows, and Mac PowerPoint, plus admin controls and third-party routing through Bedrock, Vertex, Azure, or gateways. - That matters because Claude is shifting from chat tool to office workflow layer inside Microsoft apps.

PowerPoint is where a lot of corporate work goes to become real. Strategy gets pitched there. Sales stories get polished there. Internal decisions get socialized there. Anthropic is now pushing Claude directly into that layer — not as a file generator you download later, but as a live add-in inside Microsoft PowerPoint. Over the past week, the company published deployment docs, listed the add-in in Microsoft’s marketplace, and paired that product push with a real enterprise customer rollout at The Baldwin Group. ### What actually shipped? Anthropic’s PowerPoint add-in lets users build slides from prompts, edit specific slides without redoing the whole deck, generate deck structures, and turn bullets into diagrams or native charts while keeping the presentation’s existing template, fonts, colors, and slide masters intact. That “respect the deck you already have — the templates your company made." ### Why is PowerPoint the interesting battleground? Because slide work is messy, repetitive, and full of formatting landmines. A chatbot can draft text, but decks are where brand rules, executive preferences, and last-minute edits collide. Anthropic is basically saying Claude can work inside that mess instead of forcing people to bounce between chat and the presentation outline. ### How does a company turn it on? Anthropic’s help docs now walk both individuals and IT admins through setup. Individuals install from Microsoft Marketplace. Organizations can deploy centrally through Microsoft 365 admin tools, and Anthropic also published guidance for companies that want the Office add-ins to connect through existing Google Cloud Vertex AI, Azure AI Foundry, and LLM gateways. ### Why do those admin details matter so much? Because enterprise AI adoption usually stalls on plumbing, not demos. Security review, provisioning, identity, and data-boundary questions are what slow rollouts down. Anthropic’s new docs are boring in exactly the important way — they reduce the number of custom steps an IT team has to invent on its own if they already have cloud AI controls in place. ### Is this only about PowerPoint? Not really. Anthropic also rolled out related Excel and Word add-ins and says Claude can work across those apps, reading from one and making changes in another. So the bigger play is not “an AI for slides.” It is an office workflow layer where analysis in Excel can feed a deck in PowerPoint or a draft in Word without constant copy-paste. PowerPoint is just the easiest place to see the value. ### Where does Microsoft fit into this? There are two lanes here, and they are easy to confuse. One is Anthropic’s own Office add-ins, which Anthropic distributes through Microsoft’s marketplace. The other is Microsoft’s separate admin setting for Anthropic models inside Copilot experiences in Excel and PowerPoint, with Word support slated to be part of Microsoft’s own Copilot stack. ### Why does Baldwin matter? Because product pages are one thing, but a firm-wide deployment is proof that somebody got through procurement, security, and change management. Baldwin said on May 4 that it expanded its relationship with Anthropic to deploy Claude across the company after targeted earlier deployments produced measurable improvements to the business, which makes it a good stress test for this kind of tool. ### Bottom line? The news is not just that Claude can help make slides. It is that Anthropic is getting closer to the place where office AI becomes ordinary software — installed by admins, governed by policy, and used inside the apps people already open all day.
