Michter's To Release 10-Year Bourbon
Michter's Distillery announced it will ship its 2026 release of 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon this March. This will be the first release of the highly sought-after bourbon since last year. The release was approved by Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson.
- The Michter's brand name was created in the 1950s by then-owner Lou Forman, who combined the names of his sons, Michael and Peter. The distillery's roots, however, trace back to 1753 in Pennsylvania, where it was founded as Shenk's, and lore says its rye whiskey was purchased by George Washington to fortify his troops at Valley Forge. - This release follows a pattern of scarcity; for instance, the company skipped its 10 Year Bourbon release in 2022 because Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson felt it would be "extraordinary" with an additional year of aging. - While the bottle carries a 10-year age statement, Michter's President Joseph Magliocco has stated that the bourbon bottled for these releases is often significantly older. It is bottled at 94.4 proof. - Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson was the first woman to serve as Chair of the Kentucky Distillers' Association and is in the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of FameĀ®. Master Distiller Dan McKee honed his skills at Jim Beam for nine years before joining Michter's. - As a single-barrel product, each barrel is bottled individually, meaning that the flavor profile can vary from one barrel to the next, creating a unique experience with each bottle. - The suggested retail price for the 2023 release was $185, though the 2025 MSRP has risen to $195. Due to its limited availability and high demand, bottles often sell for much higher on the secondary market. - Common tasting notes for the 10-Year Bourbon include dark toffee, caramel, charred oak, maple syrup, and vanilla. - The current whiskey is sourced from an undisclosed contract partner, but Michter's began distilling its own whiskey in 2015, with the transition to using their own distillate for the 10-year releases expected around 2026.
