BBC Saturday Kitchen Features Plant-Based Chef
This week's BBC One "Saturday Kitchen Best Bites" features acclaimed chefs Richard Bainbridge, Julie Lin, Gaz Oakley, and Shauna Froydenlund. Oakley is a leader in modern plant-based cuisine, while Bainbridge is noted for creative seasonal produce use. The March 8 episode includes segments with Rick Stein and Clive Myrie exploring healthy eating ideas both in the UK and abroad.
Gaz Oakley, known as the "Avant-Garde Vegan," began his culinary journey at 15, working in various kitchens before a passion for fitness led him to a plant-based lifestyle. He launched his influential Instagram and YouTube channels in 2016, which have since amassed over a million followers combined, leading to best-selling cookbooks and collaborations with brands like Wagamama. Richard Bainbridge honed his skills in some of the world's most prestigious kitchens, including the three-Michelin-starred Waterside Inn under Michel Roux Senior. A winner of the BBC's "Great British Menu," he is celebrated for his modern British cuisine at his Norwich restaurant, Benedicts, which has earned 3 AA Rosettes. Julie Lin, a former "MasterChef" quarter-finalist, draws inspiration from her Malaysian-Scottish heritage to create her unique culinary style. After training in various Glasgow restaurants and running a successful pop-up, she opened her own acclaimed restaurant, GaGa, which has earned a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin guide. Shauna Froydenlund has had a long and successful career alongside famed chef Marcus Wareing, starting with a student placement at his then-restaurant, Pétrus. She and her husband, Mark, eventually became joint chef-patrons of the two-Michelin-starred "Marcus," and she has also served as a consultant for the film "Burnt." Esteemed chef Rick Stein is widely recognized for his focus on fresh, simple seafood dishes. His culinary travels, documented in numerous television series and books, have taken him around the globe, from Venice to Istanbul, in search of the world's best flavors. Clive Myrie is a distinguished BBC journalist and newsreader who has reported from over 90 countries, covering major global events. In addition to his news-presenting duties and hosting "Mastermind," Myrie has presented several travel documentary series, including "Clive Myrie's Italian Road Trip" and "Clive Myrie's Caribbean Adventure."
