Knicks End Spurs Streak
The Knicks snapped the Spurs' 11-game winning streak at MSG with Mikal Bridges dropping 25 points. Victor Wembanyama still posted 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists in the loss, but couldn't keep the streak alive.
The Spurs' 11-game winning streak was their longest since a 13-0 run during the 2015-16 season. Before the loss to the Knicks, San Antonio had not lost since January 31st against the Charlotte Hornets. Their perfect record in February marked just the third time in franchise history that the Spurs have gone an entire month without a loss. The Knicks' defense played a significant role in halting the Spurs' momentum, forcing a season-high 22 turnovers which they converted into 24 points. New York dominated on the glass, outrebounding San Antonio 54-41. The victory was part of a strong stretch for the Knicks, who have won 14 of their last 18 games. Mikal Bridges' 25-point performance was complemented by five steals, showcasing his two-way impact. The trade to New York reunited him with his former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, a trio that won a national championship together in 2016. This core, often dubbed the "Nova Knicks," is known for its chemistry and team-first mentality. Despite the loss, Victor Wembanyama continued his historic rookie campaign. He is the first player in NBA history to record at least 1,500 points, 250 blocks, and 100 three-pointers in a season. He also became the youngest player to lead the league in blocks per game. Looking ahead, the Spurs will face the Philadelphia 76ers on the road. The Knicks will travel to Toronto to take on the Raptors.
