Allens Appoints New Managing Partner

Allens, a prominent legal and consulting firm, appointed Marc Kemp as its new managing partner. The move marks the firm's most significant leadership change in a decade. Such transitions can signal shifts in a firm's strategy, culture, and hiring priorities.

Marc Kemp's predecessor, Richard Spurio, held the leadership position for over a decade, a period of sustained success and growth for the firm. Spurio, who began his tenure as managing partner in 2016 and was reappointed in 2020, will work with Kemp to transition leadership. The incoming managing partner has been with the firm for nearly 20 years and was made partner in 2012. Kemp's background is in investment funds law, where he headed the Funds, Superannuation & Financial Services practice and advised on major transactions, including the A$200 billion merger of Sunsuper and QSuper. Allens operates under an exclusive strategic alliance with UK "Magic Circle" firm Linklaters, a partnership established in 2012. This arrangement allows both firms to remain independent while forming joint ventures in Asia to target energy, resources, and infrastructure work. Operationally, the firm emphasizes digital transformation and has been named one of Australia's most innovative companies for six consecutive years. Allens has invested in a low-code platform to modernize its legal practice applications and has developed a proprietary, secure generative AI tool named 'Airlie' for internal use. In its recruitment, Allens states it seeks to hire from a diverse pool, valuing varied life experiences in addition to academic performance. The firm has a public commitment to gender diversity, with a "40:40:20" target (40% women, 40% men, 20% any gender) across all roles, from junior staff to the partnership and board.
