- Amazon One Medical launched a prescription-management program for GLP-1 weight-loss medications through its primary-care arm. - The program integrates prescription issuance and management to simplify patient access and ongoing treatment adherence. - By owning prescription navigation and management, Amazon is positioning itself as a care-access platform that could change how patients reach therapies (gurufocus.com).
Amazon has started selling a One Medical program for weight-loss drugs that folds doctor visits, prescription management and pharmacy delivery into one service. (aboutamazon.com) (health.amazon.com) The program appeared on Amazon’s health site on April 21, 2026, and offers a dedicated provider, follow-up care, insurance and prior-authorization support, and the option to fill through Amazon Pharmacy. (aboutamazon.com) (health.amazon.com) Amazon said insured patients can pay as little as $25 a month for some GLP-1 drugs through Amazon Pharmacy. It listed cash prices starting at $149 a month for oral drugs and $299 a month for injectables such as Wegovy and Zepbound. (cnbc.com) (press.aboutamazon.com) GLP-1 drugs are prescription medicines that help people feel full longer and eat less. On Amazon’s site, One Medical says providers assess whether a patient qualifies, then send the prescription to the patient’s preferred pharmacy. (health.amazon.com) The drugs are generally prescribed for adults with obesity, or for adults who are overweight and also have at least one related medical condition such as high blood pressure or sleep apnea. Wegovy and Zepbound carry those long-term weight-management indications in their labels. (accessdata.fda.gov 1) (accessdata.fda.gov 2) Amazon is moving into a market that has been shaped by shortages, insurance hurdles and heavy demand. Its pitch is that the same company can handle the clinic visit, the refill request, the price quote and the home delivery. (cnbc.com) (health.amazon.com) The launch also extends Amazon’s health push after it closed its $3.9 billion acquisition of One Medical on February 22, 2023. Prime members can now buy a One Medical membership for $99 a year, giving Amazon a lower-cost front door into primary care. (cnbc.com) (onemedical.com) (health.amazon.com) Amazon has been building the weight-loss business in pieces. In March 2026, Amazon Pharmacy said it had expanded access to Eli Lilly’s Zepbound KwikPen and was already delivering GLP-1 drugs through partnerships with companies including LillyDirect, WeightWatchers, UpScriptHealth and Noom. (press.aboutamazon.com) Investors treated the launch as a competitive threat to other obesity-care players. CNBC reported shares of Hims & Hers Health, Viking Therapeutics, Amgen and Septerna fell after Amazon’s announcement. (cnbc.com) Amazon’s next test is whether convenience changes who controls access to these drugs. If patients start with One Medical and fill through Amazon Pharmacy, the company keeps more of the weight-loss journey inside its own system. (health.amazon.com) (cnbc.com)
