17-Year-Old Powerlifts 780kg Total

Russian teenager Semen Dukshanin, weighing 120kg and only 17 years old, managed an astonishing 780kg total at the Powerlifting World Championships in South Africa — despite battling the flu and jetlag. His journey from an overweight 12-year-old to international champion shows the transformative potential of strength sports.

Semen Dukshanin's powerlifting journey is marked by nationally recognized achievements in Russia. At the Russia Powerlifting Championships in April 2021, he competed in the 120+ kg weight class as a junior, achieving a total of 975 kg in an equipped competition. His individual lifts at this event included a 400 kg squat, a 265 kg bench press, and a 310 kg deadlift. He is also slated to compete in the Russian Powerlifting Federation's classic (raw) championship in June 2025, with a registered total of 937.5 kg. This raw total consists of a 355 kg squat, a 235 kg bench press, and a 347.5 kg deadlift, demonstrating his prowess in both equipped and unequipped lifting categories. Dukshanin trains under the guidance of coach V.V. Kortunov. His competitive history is primarily within Russian national events, where he has consistently posted high-level results in the junior and open divisions. For context in the junior 120 kg weight class, the equipped world record total stands at 1,060 kg, held by Kevin Jager of Germany since 2016. In the raw (classic) division, the junior world record total is a benchmark that top athletes like Dukshanin are measured against as they progress in their careers.
