Flow Miami Community Serves as Eco-Living Case Study

The Flow Miami residential community exemplifies how eco-conscious practices can be integrated into daily life on a larger scale. The development's initiatives include on-site habitat restoration and partnerships with conservation organizations. These strategies, such as creating rain gardens and native plant beds, are adaptable for smaller residential projects.

Flow is the latest real estate venture from Adam Neumann, co-founder of WeWork. The Miami development is a 41-story tower in the Miami Worldcenter district, featuring 466 furnished residential units from studios to two-bedrooms, with a scheduled completion date in mid-2026. Residences feature nine-foot-high ceilings, rain showers, and interiors built with earth-based materials. The project emphasizes sustainable interior design by providing custom-crafted furniture made from recycled, reclaimed, and responsibly sourced materials for each unit. The community's design taps into the principles of biophilic design, a movement focused on connecting building occupants with nature to improve well-being. This philosophy is realized through the integration of natural light, organic textures, and plant life to create spaces that can reduce stress and enhance mood. While ambitious, Flow Miami joins a growing number of large-scale green communities in Florida. Babcock Ranch, located in southwest Florida, is the first fully solar-powered town in the U.S. Meanwhile, Lakewood Ranch on the state's west coast holds the title of the largest certified green community in the nation. The construction of such eco-conscious projects in Florida often involves materials suited for the climate's humidity and storm risks. Builders frequently utilize recycled steel, bamboo, and insulated concrete forms to enhance durability while minimizing environmental impact. Beyond its structural materials, the development's focus on wellness is supported by a suite of high-end amenities. These include a 24-hour fitness center with Technogym and Rogue equipment, yoga and meditation classes, a pet wellness center, and a proprietary "Flow" mobile app for scheduling classes and community events.
