Market intel joins procurement

Tonkean previewed a 'Market Intelligence‑Infused Procurement Orchestration' approach with Beroe, describing workflows that push market data directly into sourcing decisions (x.com). The post signaled a move to automate alerts and intelligence feeds so procurement teams can respond faster to supplier and price volatility (x.com).

Tonkean and Beroe are pitching a procurement system that feeds live market data straight into sourcing workflows instead of leaving buyers to check separate dashboards. (tonkean.com) The companies announced the partnership and product launch on December 4, 2024, saying Beroe’s category and supplier intelligence would be embedded in Tonkean’s intake and orchestration software. Tonkean said the setup is meant to work from the “first moment of intent” through the full request lifecycle. (tonkean.com) In plain terms, procurement orchestration is software that routes a purchase request through approvals, policies, systems, and suppliers. Tonkean says its platform coordinates people, data, and tools at the process level rather than replacing the systems companies already use. (tonkean.com) Beroe supplies the market side of that equation. The company says its platform covers more than 2,300 categories, offers supplier risk monitoring, and pushes real-time insights and alerts to procurement teams. (beroeinc.com) The joint pitch is that those alerts can now show up inside the buying workflow itself. Tonkean’s product page says the system overlays Beroe’s market signals with company policies and business context so requesters can be steered toward compliant, lower-cost suppliers during intake. (tonkean.com) That reflects a wider procurement software push toward stitching together fragmented tools. Gartner said in its 2025 Hype Cycle for Procurement and Sourcing Solutions, published June 30, 2025, that procurement leaders are investing in technologies that optimize and automate across processes. (gartner.com) The fragmentation problem is not theoretical. A Gartner procurement-orchestration note republished by Zip says 85% of procurement organizations use a combination of different procurement and sourcing applications. (ziphq.com) Beroe has been building the data plumbing needed for this model. Its DataHub product says it provides application programming interface access to more than 14 million real-time data points across 30-plus categories so procurement teams can plug curated intelligence into other systems. (beroeinc.com) The sales pitch lands at a time when procurement teams are dealing with price swings and supplier risk. Beroe said in November 2024 that persistent global uncertainty was making it harder for category managers to stay informed and make agile decisions, and it framed real-time category intelligence as the answer. (beroeinc.com) Tonkean’s bet is that procurement teams will stop treating market intelligence as a separate research task. If that happens, the buyer’s workflow becomes the place where price, risk, policy, and approval decisions get made at the same time. (tonkean.com)
