WU LYF Announces First Album Since 2011

English indie band WU LYF confirmed "A Wave That Will Never Break"—their first new album since 2011's acclaimed "Go Tell Fire to the Mountain". Produced by Sonic Boom, the album releases April 19 and is led by the single "Love Your Fate." The return of WU LYF, known for their enigmatic presence and atmospheric sound, represents a major event in indie circles after a 15-year absence.

- The band's 2012 breakup was announced abruptly by singer Ellery Roberts in a YouTube post, where he stated, "WU LYF is dead to me." The other members of the band were reportedly surprised by the public announcement. - Their acclaimed debut, "Go Tell Fire to the Mountain," was recorded in a church in Manchester, which contributed to the album's signature atmospheric and reverb-heavy sound. - During their initial rise, the band cultivated an enigmatic presence by declining press interviews and obscuring their identities, which helped build significant hype around their music. - In the intervening years, frontman Ellery Roberts formed the musical project LUH. (later known as Lost Under Heaven) with Ebony Hoorn, which released music until February 2025. - The other members also pursued new projects; bassist Tom McClung started a solo career as Francis Lung, while guitarist Evans Kati and drummer Joe Manning formed Los Porcos and later Dream Lovers. - New producer Sonic Boom is the professional name of Peter Kember, a founding member of the influential neo-psychedelic band Spacemen 3. - As a producer, Kember is known for his work with a range of indie artists including Panda Bear, Beach House, and MGMT.
