Welsh Heritage Gallery Opens March 1
A new art gallery focused on Welsh heritage will open in Tenby on St David's Day (March 1) with Jimi Zen at the helm. The gallery promises to become a major hub for both local and visiting art lovers. Meanwhile, London's Photographers' Gallery is currently showcasing Boris Mikhailov's provocative work challenging social conventions through photography.
- The new gallery is named the Jimi Zen Gallery and is located on Sergeants Lane in Tenby. It will feature the artist's own work, which focuses on the Welsh landscape through a combination of traditional photography and modern, retro-inspired art. - Beyond showcasing Jimi Zen's portfolio, the space intends to serve as a community art hub for West Wales by promoting emerging artists and hosting monthly art and photography competitions open to the public. - The gallery's March 1 opening is significant as it falls on St David's Day, the feast day for the patron saint of Wales. National celebrations on this day include parades, traditional Welsh dress, and the wearing of daffodils or leeks, the country's national emblems. - Tenby is already home to a number of galleries, including the Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, which celebrates local history and creativity. Other local art spots include Harbour Gallery Tenby, showing coastal landscapes by artist John Cahill, and Guy Manning's Art Room. - The Boris Mikhailov exhibition, titled "Ukrainian Diary," is the first major UK retrospective for the influential Ukrainian artist. It covers over 50 years of his work exploring social and political themes in Ukraine's history. - Mikhailov's work is known for being experimental and provocative, sometimes using techniques like "lousy photography for a lousy reality" to critique Soviet-era life. The exhibition includes his "Red" series, which documents the saturation of communist ideology in everyday scenes. - The "Ukrainian Diary" exhibition at The Photographers' Gallery in London runs from October 10, 2025, to February 22, 2026.
