Ari Lennox Opens Up About Dreamville

Ari Lennox was the first female artist signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records, joining in December 2015. Under the label, she released her debut EP *Pho* (2016) and two critically acclaimed studio albums, *Shea Butter Baby* (2019) and *age/sex/location* (2022). She was also a key contributor to the label's popular compilation albums, including the Grammy-nominated *Revenge of the Dreamers III*, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Her 2021 single "Pressure" became her first solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Tensions with the label became public in late 2024 when Lennox voiced frustrations on social media, accusing both Dreamville and its parent company, Interscope, of a lack of support, marketing, and protection. She expressed a desire to be released from her contract, citing manipulation and feeling unheard by the labels. Despite the earlier friction, her official departure in April 2025 was reported as amicable. Shortly after the split was announced, Lennox performed at the Dreamville Festival and publicly thanked J. Cole on stage for making her dreams a reality. In a March 2026 interview, Lennox expressed regret over publicizing her grievances, stating she should have communicated directly with Cole instead of taking her frustrations to the internet. Lennox remains signed to Interscope Records as a solo artist. Her first project since the departure is her third studio album, *Vacancy*, which was released on January 23, 2026.
