Gemini inside Workspace

Google is folding Gemini features into everyday Workspace tools, including a Gemini Interactive Workstation, 3D simulation capabilities, and creator tools such as Lyria 3 Pro for longer-form music generation. (intelligentliving.co) In Google Meet the product now offers automated features like “Take notes for me” and “Next steps suggestions,” and Gmail users can opt out by turning off Google Workspace smart features in settings. Google is pushing Gemini deeper into Workspace, turning Gmail, Docs, Sheets and Meet into places where artificial intelligence writes, summarizes and organizes work. (blog.google) At Google Cloud Next on April 9, 2025, the company said Workspace would add new Gemini tools across Docs, Sheets, Chat and Meet, including audio features in Docs that can turn files into full audio versions or podcast-style summaries. (blog.google) Google has also expanded the creative side of Gemini. On March 27, 2026, Google said Lyria 3 Pro would roll out across Vertex Artificial Intelligence, Google Artificial Intelligence Studio, the Gemini Application Programming Interface, Google Vids, the Gemini app and ProducerAI, with music generation up to 3 minutes long and controls for verses and choruses. (blog.google) The same push now reaches live meetings. Google Meet’s “Take notes for me” feature automatically creates notes in Google Docs, supports eight languages, and can add a “Suggested next steps” section drawn from the meeting discussion. (support.google.com, blog.google) Google has also added “Ask Gemini” inside Meet, which lets people query the assistant during a call, but Google says it cannot answer about discussion that happened before a user joined unless note-taking was already turned on. Google also says the feature does not work in breakout rooms. (support.google.com) Outside Workspace, Google is widening Gemini’s visual tools too. On April 9, 2026, Google said the Gemini app could generate interactive charts, 3D models and simulations directly inside a chat instead of returning only text and static diagrams. (blog.google) That changes what “office software” means inside Google’s products. Workspace is no longer limited to editing documents and email threads; Google is packaging note-taking, search, audio generation, visualization and automation into the same subscription stack. (workspace.google.com, blog.google) Google is also tying these features to business plans and admin controls. The Meet help pages say note-taking and in-meeting Gemini tools require an eligible Google Workspace subscription, rather than being available to every free Google account. (support.google.com, support.google.com) For users who do not want Gmail and other Workspace apps using these assistive features, Google provides a switch for Workspace “smart features” in settings, which controls features that use content across Google products to personalize suggestions. (support.google.com) The result is a Google workplace where Gemini is less a separate chatbot than a layer spread across email, documents, meetings and media tools — and where the main user choice is increasingly whether to use it, limit it, or turn parts of it off.
