Cardi B and Megan Reunite for WAP

Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B reignited their viral chemistry by reuniting on stage in Houston to perform their chart-topping hit "WAP." The surprise appearance ended rumors of any rift between the two, with both artists signaling that their friendship—and collaborative energy—remains strong. Apple Music also spotlighted Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Doechii as the "new faces of Rap" this week.

"WAP" debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2020, shattering the record for the largest opening streaming week for a song in U.S. history with 93 million streams. The track became the first female rap collaboration to debut in the top spot and marked Cardi B's fourth number-one single and Megan Thee Stallion's second. The song's explicit lyrics celebrating female sexuality sparked a significant cultural conversation and drew widespread criticism from conservative political figures and commentators. In response to the backlash, both artists defended the song's message of empowerment, with many fans and critics highlighting a double standard in the music industry regarding lyrical content from male and female artists. The visually opulent music video, directed by Colin Tilley, featured a host of cameos from women in the entertainment industry, including Normani, Rosalía, Kylie Jenner, Latto, Sukihana, and Rubi Rose. The video itself broke records, achieving the biggest 24-hour debut for an all-female collaboration on YouTube. Their subsequent performance of the song at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards led to over 1,000 complaints being filed with the Federal Communications Commission. The Houston performance was not the duo's only on-stage reunion; they also performed their 2023 collaboration "Bongos." This, along with affectionate social media posts following the show, solidified their united front. Rumors of a rift had previously circulated, fueled by fan speculation and social media interactions. The reunion at the Toyota Center during Cardi B's "Little Miss Drama Tour" was particularly meaningful as it took place in Megan Thee Stallion's hometown. Cardi B introduced Megan as "Houston's finest," and Megan emerged from a trap door on the stage to a roaring crowd.
