Patricia Urquiola, the Spanish architect and designer behind the guide, has lived and worked in Milan for years. Her firm, Studio Urquiola, founded in 2001 with Alberto Zontone, handles industrial design, architecture, and art direction. Urquiola previously managed design at Lissoni Associati and collaborated with Vico Magistretti. Urquiola's Milan guide likely highlights places that inspire her multidisciplinary work. She's known for blending styles, patterns, and natural elements with a focus on sustainability. Her architectural projects include the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona and Casa Brera, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Milan. Casa Brera, which opened in March 2025, is located in the Brera district and was originally designed by Pietro Lingeri in the 1950s. Urquiola reimagined the landmark rationalist building, incorporating marble surfaces, sculptural furniture and striking artwork. The 116-room hotel aims to be a temporary home for guests, reflecting Milan's colors and architectural influences. The Luxury Collection, part of Marriott International, features hotels offering unique experiences. Milan is a hub for fashion and design, hosting events like Milan Design Week and Salone del Mobile. The Excelsior Hotel Gallia is another Luxury Collection hotel in Milan, known for its Belle Époque architecture and modern design.
