Motorola Launches 'razr fold' Phone

Motorola unveiled the razr fold, its first book-style foldable designed for multitasking and creativity. The device features dual displays and adaptive interfaces, running on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform to power its AI features. This marks a significant expansion of the razr line and a new entry into the high-end foldable market.

The device features an 8.1-inch internal display with a 2K resolution and a 6.6-inch external screen. It is powered by a 6,000 mAh battery, supported by 80W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities. Motorola's camera system, which DXOMARK ranked as the #1 among foldables, includes three 50MP rear cameras: a main Sony LYTIA sensor, an ultrawide lens, and a 3x telephoto lens. The device also includes two selfie cameras, a 32MP sensor for the external screen and a 20MP sensor for the internal one. The choice of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a sub-flagship processor, positions the razr fold competitively. Geekbench benchmark scores show its performance is on par with the previous year's Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which utilized the higher-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. The phone's design incorporates a stainless steel teardrop hinge to reduce creasing on the inner screen. It is also the first smartphone to use Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, which Motorola claims improves drop performance by 75% over previous generations. This launch marks Motorola's entry into the growing book-style foldable market, a segment that is quickly becoming the primary growth engine for all foldables. Projections indicate book-style devices will account for 65% of the foldable market in 2026, up from 52% in 2025, signaling a market shift toward productivity. Motorola's strategy pivots from its earlier modern Razr models, which capitalized on the nostalgia of its iconic 2000s flip phones, to directly competing in the large-format, productivity-focused category dominated by Samsung. While Samsung previously held a near-monopoly on the book-style market, its share has dropped as new competitors have entered the space.
