Snowflake and OpenAI Ink $200M Deal
In one of the largest enterprise AI deals to date, Snowflake and OpenAI have forged a $200M partnership. The deal is set to deploy AI agents across Snowflake's 12,600+ corporate customers, signaling a massive acceleration of AI-powered data analysis and workflow automation into regulated environments.
This multi-year, $200 million partnership deeply integrates OpenAI's models, including GPT-5.2, directly into Snowflake's AI Data Cloud. The goal is to allow enterprises to build AI agents and generate insights from their own governed data without moving it outside of Snowflake's secure perimeter. The collaboration centers on Snowflake's Cortex AI, an intelligent, fully managed service that provides access to large language models and AI capabilities. Through Cortex AI, users can leverage OpenAI models directly via SQL or Python functions, enabling tasks like sentiment analysis, translation, and summarization on their existing data. This is part of Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy's vision to make AI an accelerant for everything users already do in the platform. For SRE and DevOps leaders, this enables the creation of custom AI agents that can reason over operational data to automate complex workflows. These agents can be used for proactive incident detection, root cause analysis, and automated remediation, significantly reducing mean time to resolution (MTTR). The integration will leverage OpenAI's Apps SDK and AgentKit to facilitate the development of these interoperable agents. This deal is part of a broader enterprise strategy for OpenAI, which involves establishing deep distribution channels through partnerships rather than building a massive internal sales force. In early 2026, OpenAI also announced "Frontier Alliances" with major consulting firms like McKinsey, BCG, and Accenture to accelerate the adoption of its AI agent platforms in large organizations. The partnership is reciprocal, with OpenAI already using Snowflake as a data platform for its own experiment tracking and analytics. In turn, Snowflake utilizes ChatGPT Enterprise internally to accelerate productivity and streamline workflows. This two-way street demonstrates a tight coupling aimed at joint innovation and go-to-market strategies. This move reflects an industry trend of embedding AI directly into core data platforms, bringing models to the data rather than the other way around. Snowflake is positioning itself as the central, secure AI execution layer for enterprises, competing with other major cloud and data platforms that are also rapidly expanding their enterprise AI offerings.
