Pereira Vacates UFC Light Heavyweight Title

Alex Pereira is vacating the light heavyweight title to move up to the heavyweight division, aiming to become a three-division UFC champion. This move follows uncertainty in the heavyweight division, including the retirement of Jon Jones and an injury to champion Tom Aspinall. Pereira's last fight in the 205-pound division was a first-round knockout victory over Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320 to reclaim the title. The now-vacant light heavyweight championship will be contested at UFC 327 on April 11, 2026, at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. This event marks the UFC's fifth visit to the city. Jiri Prochazka, a former light heavyweight champion who vacated the belt in 2022 due to a shoulder injury, will face Carlos Ulberg for the title. Prochazka is coming off wins against Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree Jr., with his only recent losses being to Pereira. Carlos Ulberg is entering his first UFC title shot on a nine-fight winning streak since losing his debut in 2021. His recent victories include a knockout of Dominick Reyes and a decision win over former champion Jan Blachowicz. Prochazka and Ulberg have a combined 36 knockouts between them. The UFC 327 card also features a flyweight title bout between champion Joshua Van and Tatsuro Taira. The co-main event is a highly anticipated featherweight fight between two former Bellator standouts, Patricio "Pitbull" Freire and Aaron Pico. Pitbull, a former two-division champion in Bellator, is 1-1 in the UFC. Aaron Pico, once a top Bellator prospect known for his wrestling and boxing background, was knocked out in his UFC debut. A win over a decorated veteran like Pitbull would be a significant step up in his career.
