The 2026 MXGP season kicked off in Patagonia at the Bariloche MX Race Track, a new venue 85 km south of the previous Argentinian circuit. Spaniard Gabriel Villada designed the 1,800-meter track, which features 21 turns and a 25-meter elevation difference. Jeffrey Herlings, now with Honda HRC Petronas, secured his first Argentinian victory since 2018, marking his 113th Grand Prix win. Romain Febvre, the defending MXGP World Champion, finished second overall, continuing his podium streak in Argentina. In MX2, Simon Längenfelder, the reigning world champion, dominated both races, celebrating his 100th GP with his tenth career win. Triumph Racing Factory Team riders Guillem Farres and Camden McLellan completed the MX2 podium. The 2026 season marks the 70th year of the FIM Motocross World Championship. Originally featuring classes based on engine size, it transitioned to MXGP and MX2 in 2014. MXGP allows 250cc two-strokes to 450cc four-strokes, while MX2 is capped at under-23 riders with 125cc two-strokes to 250cc four-strokes. The series promoter, Infront Moto Racing, has been managing the MXGP commercial rights since 2019. The 2026 calendar includes 19 Grands Prix across Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa. Great Britain's Foxhills circuit will host a Grand Prix for the first time in 26 years.
