AI Tools Target Health Decisions & Advocacy
Two new AI-powered healthcare platforms have been launched to improve patient outcomes. Vital Guard™ is a system that scans electronic health records to flag overlooked clinical findings for early detection. Separately, the Gallbladder Cancer Foundation unveiled an agentic AI to help patients navigate diagnosis and treatment options.
- Studies show that up to 31% of acute care imaging studies contain an incidental finding, and a significant number of these findings are not communicated to patients. - Vital Guard™ utilizes advanced natural language processing to analyze radiology reports and provider notes, creating prioritized worklists that flag uncommunicated incidental findings. - The Gallbladder Cancer Foundation's AI Advocate was developed in partnership with Citizen Health, a company that recently raised $14.5 million in seed funding and is also collaborating with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative on rare disease research. - Gallbladder cancer is frequently diagnosed in advanced stages because early symptoms are uncommon. The five-year survival rate for localized gallbladder cancer is 66%, but it drops to 2% once it has metastasized. - The AI Advocate platform from Citizen Health is designed to help patients manage the complexities of their care by centralizing all their medical records and making them searchable. It can also generate summaries of doctor's appointments and cross-reference them with the patient's full medical history. - Gallbladder cancer is more common in women, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans. Key risk factors include a history of gallstones and chronic gallbladder inflammation. - The AI Advocate platform is not just for gallbladder cancer; it is also used by more than 50 other patient advocacy groups for various rare diseases.
