Coco Gauff injured, Miami Open in doubt
World No. 4 Coco Gauff retired from Indian Wells with a 'scary' arm injury, casting doubt on her participation in the upcoming Miami Open.
Gauff described the pain as feeling "like a firework was going off" in her left forearm during the second game of the match against Alex Eala. She took a medical timeout and had her forearm strapped, but the pain worsened. An MRI is scheduled to determine the extent of the nerve-related issue. Despite the injury, Gauff stated she "should be fine for Miami," suggesting optimism about a quick recovery. However, if she withdraws from the Miami Open, it would be the first time since 2021 that the tournament proceeds without its biggest local draw. Main draw action for the Miami Open is scheduled from March 17-29. Several players have already withdrawn from the Miami Open, including Lois Boisson, Holger Rune, Tallon Griekspoor and Jaume Munar. Katie Boulter replaced Boisson in the main draw.
