Highly Suspect Drops Yellow Roses
Alternative rockers Highly Suspect just premiered their new single 'Yellow Roses' on 98 Rock. The track is already getting airplay on alternative and rock stations as the band builds momentum for their next album cycle.
"Yellow Roses" is the band's first new material since the release of their fifth studio album, "As Above, So Below," which dropped on July 19, 2024. The new track marks a new era for the band, as they are releasing music independently after parting ways with record labels 300 and Roadrunner Records. The song signals a potential shift in sound, opening with frontman Johnny Stevens on acoustic guitar before the full band joins. Lyrically, it's a contemplative track, with Stevens musing on what a "perfect little life" might be like, touching on themes of houses, cars, dogs, and kids. The current lineup for the Cape Cod-formed band includes Johnny Stevens on lead vocals and guitar, twin brothers Rich and Ryan Meyer on bass and drums respectively, and Matt Kofos and Mark Schwartz on guitar and keyboards. Highly Suspect first broke into the mainstream with their 2015 debut album, "Mister Asylum," which earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album. The single "Lydia" from that album was also nominated for Best Rock Song. They've had multiple chart-toppers on the Billboard US Mainstream Rock Songs chart, including "My Name Is Human" from their 2016 album "The Boy Who Died Wolf," and "Natural Born Killer" from 2022's "The Midnight Demon Club." Following a period of lineup changes and what some critics considered a departure from their roots with the 2019 album "MCID," this new, independently released music is being viewed as a return to the band's core essence. Fans can expect more new music soon, as frontman Johnny Stevens has promised alternate versions of "Yellow Roses" and more tracks throughout 2026. The band is also scheduled to perform at the Welcome to Rockville festival in May 2026.
