Vision Pro Used in Training Simulations
The Apple Vision Pro is now being used for advanced training simulations, including training crew on new Class 99 locomotives. This demonstrates the operational impact of spatial computing in enterprise environments and highlights the expanding use cases for the Vision Pro beyond consumer applications.
GB Railfreight (GBRf) is partnering with JigSpace to use Apple Vision Pro for training on the new Class 99 locomotives, with deployment beginning in March 2026. This makes GBRf one of the first UK freight operators to adopt spatial computing for immersive, remote learning. The collaboration aims to give train crews a head start before the locomotives are fully introduced to the network. The JigSpace app on Apple Vision Pro creates a true-to-scale, interactive 360° environment, allowing trainees to explore the cab layout and key components as if they were in a real locomotive. This virtual walk-around enhances understanding of critical features and systems. Future phases will expand the system to include operational procedures and component-specific training modules. GBRf anticipates saving over £500,000 in two years by reducing travel to its Peterborough Training School. The Class 99 locomotives, built by Stadler in Spain, are designed to increase line capacity and improve freight train speeds on routes like the West Coast Main Line. The spatial computing training will initially focus on familiarizing crews with the Class 99 systems and operational design.
