UK Beach Goes Luxury
A UK beach is making waves on TikTok as both a "tropical paradise" and "playground for the rich" with miles of golden sand, sheltered waters, and the highest seaside property prices in the country. The destination is gaining a new reputation for exclusivity despite being a traditional British beach.
The stretch of coast is the Sandbanks peninsula in Poole, Dorset, which for years has ranked as the most expensive seaside location in the UK. An average property here costs £965,708, more than three times the national average for a seaside home. This exclusive enclave is sometimes dubbed "Britain's Palm Springs." Once a deserted landscape of sand dunes, the area's transformation began after World War I with the construction of a road that made it accessible to tourists. The real development boom, however, took off in the 1960s, and by the 1990s, marketing efforts had placed it on the world map as "millionaires' row." The peninsula's appeal lies in its award-winning Blue Flag beach, with soft golden sands and clear waters. It also boasts a sheltered position within Poole Harbour, creating ideal conditions for watersports like paddleboarding, kayaking, and kitesurfing. The area's exclusivity has been cemented by celebrity residents over the years, including football figures like Tony Pulis and Graeme Souness. John Lennon of The Beatles famously bought a house here for his Aunt Mimi in 1965. Just a short ferry ride away is the more rustic Studland Bay, a four-mile stretch of unspoilt, National Trust-managed beaches. With views of Old Harry Rocks, it is gaining its own TikTok fame as a quieter, less-developed alternative to the glamour of Sandbanks.
