Hunt Showdown Removes Map Info
Hunt: Showdown will soon stop showing extraction points and loot locations on the map. The bold change aims to create more tension and reward players with better map knowledge in the extraction shooter.
The change is part of the upcoming "Devil's Trail" in-game event, which starts on March 18th. This experimental feature is part of Crytek's ongoing effort to innovate within the extraction shooter genre and analyze player feedback to decide if the changes become permanent. This modification aims to disrupt the typical end-game pattern where a team with the bounty token makes a predictable run to the nearest visible extraction point. By hiding these locations, the developers intend to make the extraction phase less straightforward and more intense. Players will have several ways to locate the hidden supply and extraction points during a match. They can be discovered by physically finding them on the map or by using new "Scouting Maps" found in the world. Additionally, extraction points will be revealed to players after they pick up a bounty token, banish a boss target, or use "The Chariot" Tarot Card. To aid in this new dynamic, the event will introduce "Scout Towers" to the maps. Two of these new points of interest will spawn in each mission, containing the interactive Scouting Maps that reveal the hidden locations. These towers can also contain new Tarot Cards, custom ammo, and Traits. The "Devil's Trail" event will also expand player tracking abilities with a feature called "The World Remembers." More in-game interactions, such as used ammo crates, opened first aid kits, destroyed barrels, and opened doors, will now leave permanent visual traces, allowing observant hunters to better track enemy movements. A new trait called "All Ears" will also be introduced, which can be acquired at Scout Towers. This trait alters the audio in Dark Sight, reducing ambient noise to make enemy sounds clearer, further emphasizing the "hunt" aspect of the gameplay.
