Google surfaces social takes

Google began showing a “what people are saying” box in search results that pulls posts from platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, LinkedIn, Reddit and X/Twitter. The box directly embeds social content into search real estate, making short-form posts and commentary more discoverable in organic search. (x.com/illyism/status/2044143066215309401)

Google is giving social posts more room inside Search, adding a “What people are saying” box that can pull in short videos and discussion posts from across the web. (seroundtable.com) The feature has been spotted showing content from platforms including YouTube Shorts, Instagram, Reddit and X, with newer versions labeled “Trending posts & discussions.” Search observers documented fresh sightings on March 9, 2026, after earlier short-video tests in October 2024. (seroundtable.com 1) (seroundtable.com 2) Google has been moving in this direction for years. In May 2023, it announced a Perspectives filter for results that “exclusively” shows videos, images and written posts from discussion boards, question-and-answer sites and social media platforms. (blog.google) In November 2023, Google said it would bring that perspectives filter to desktop Search after first launching it in the Google app and mobile web in the United States. The company said it would rank that material using the same quality signals it applies elsewhere, including expertise, experience, authoritativeness and trustworthiness. (blog.google) The current box pushes that idea one step closer to the center of the page. Instead of asking people to tap a filter, Google is placing creator posts and forum chatter directly in the main search results, where links to publishers and websites have traditionally dominated. (seroundtable.com) (blog.google) Google has already made the same bet in Discover, its personalized feed. In September 2025, the company said Discover would start showing posts from X and Instagram alongside YouTube Shorts, with more platforms planned, because users said they liked seeing articles mixed with videos and social posts. (blog.google) The company has also built product deals around that shift. Google said in February 2024 that an expanded Reddit partnership would support “more content-forward displays” of Reddit material across Google products, after years of saying people use Google to find Reddit advice on purchases, travel and other questions. (blog.google) Search industry analysts now describe Google’s results page as a mix of web links, social posts, short-form video and artificial intelligence features, especially in news queries. Search Engine Land wrote in February 2026 that publishers now have to think about how content performs on social platforms because those posts can also surface on Google. (searchengineland.com) Google has not published a broad public announcement for this exact Search box, and recent reporting describes it as a test or limited rollout rather than a fully documented launch. But the pattern is consistent: Google is treating posts, clips and comments as search results, not just as content that lives somewhere else. (seroundtable.com 1) (seroundtable.com 2)
